Lieutenant Colonel Sonia Soto-Granville currently serves as the Florida Wing Chief of Staff overseeing all Wing functional areas. Prior to this appointment, Lieutenant Colonel Soto-Granville served as Florida Wing's Chief of Staff - Programs and immediately prior to that she served as the Southeast Region Director of Professional Development, overseeing the training for the Senior Members of the regions 6 Wings.

Lieutenant Colonel Soto-Granville joined Civil Air Patrol on November 15th, 1996 in the Cabo Rojo High School Cadet Squadron, Group 5 Puerto Rico Wing, where she served as Aerospace Education and Testing Officer. In April 1998, she was assigned as the Squadron Commander of Sabana Grande Cadet Squadron, which had only 3 Cadets and within 16 months, brought the unit strength to 32 Cadets and 4 Seniors with steady attendance, and in so doing, received the 1999 Puerto Rico Wing Squadron of Merit Award.

Lieutenant Colonel Soto-Granville has pursued much of CAP’s Aerospace Education Mission by attending the 1997 and 1998 National Congress on Aerospace Education (NCASE) Conferences. She participated in the 1998 NASA’s Program for Teachers held at Oklahoma University, earning post graduate credits in Aerospace Education.

In March 1999, Lieutenant Colonel Soto-Granville organized, directed and instructed at a Rocketry Weekend along with 7 other instructors, 5 staff personnel and 139 participating Cadets. In August 1999, Colonel Soto-Granville was transferred to Group 5 Headquarters where she served as Deputy Group Commander, Public Affairs Officer, Recruiting Officer, Administrative and Personnel Officer until January 2001. She then returned to her original unit and served as Aerospace Education Officer, Administrative and Personnel Officer until December 2003.

In December 2003, Lieutenant Colonel Soto-Granville was transferred to Puerto Rico Wing Headquarters where she worked in various staff assignments as Director of Professional Development, Director of Personnel, Personnel Officer Assistant and Wing Testing Officer for two Wing Commanders. In addition, Colonel Soto-Granville held the position of Director and was a staff member of numerous Squadron Leadership Schools and Corporate Learning Courses. She served as the Director of the 2006 & 2008 Southeast Region Staff College and was an instructor as well. She holds 3 Masters Ratings in Level 2 Specialty Areas of Aerospace, Professional Development and Personnel.

She is a 2006 National Staff College graduate and has also completed numerous CAP education and training courses. Lieutenant Colonel Soto-Granville was born in New York and earned a BA degree with specialization in Literature. She is also a licensed Radio Broadcaster. In her civilian life, she is an English Teacher. She is married to Austyn Granville, Jr., who is a Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol. She has three children: Alexis, who is a Major in CAP, and twins Julian, a Staff Sergeant and Ranger in the US Army, and his sister Juliana. Both her oldest son and daughter are former CAP Cadets.

Colonel Soto-Granville’s CAP decorations and awards include the Exceptional Service Award, Meritorious Service Award (3), Wing Commanders Commendation (3), Unit Citation (6), Gill Robb Wilson Award (#2423), A. Scott Crossfield Master Aerospace Award, Brig Gen Chuck Yeager Award, Command Service Ribbon, Red Service Ribbon with 3 Bronze Clasps, Encampment Ribbon with 4 Bronze Clasps and Senior Recruiter Ribbon with 2 Silver Clasps.
